ok guys im back WOW wow wow wow IT WAS SO AWESOME! ok, ok, um, lets start with everything: a lot of people showed up, apparently, 200 or so more than they expected and they had to rearrange the seating or something to fit everyone in so they had to use the break-neck seats up top the stage was set up like this: seat in the back stage, then the auditorium in front, break neck seats up top i was not very happy with my random placement in the 7th row, which is like, 20 ft from the band and on the complete left of the stage, but for a regular concert, they would be damn good seats, i suppose the stage was filled with huge candlesand two or three HUGE red lava lamps! the background was this swiss-cheese like curtain with bright light shining through the holes onto the band the lighting was cool: wierd electric blues and bright magenta and red and green ok: so, the taping was from 8-10 plus whatever retakes they had to do, the band ended up playing for 2 1/2 hours!

first, jerry came on (wild applause)and started nutshell he was on the right in the back(farthest from me) then mike (more applause) and he was on the left in front(nearest to me) then sean and an extra guitarist, scottie olsen, came on (cheering) they were both on the left, scottie in front, sean in back (as they all came on, they picked up their instruments and joined jerry) lastly, a pink haired layne strolled on stage to thunderous applause and started singing the room was so full of energy layne sat front, center, between jerry and mike but he had this music stand with all of the lyrics and songs on them on papers, and that was to the right of him, so almost all of the show (to my sheer horror) he sat facing the music stand AWAY from me mike from penn state (hi!) who was there also (and had better seats, im sure) said that he looked really really skinny and i think he said also tired/sickly anyways, the psychedelic lights had fun with his hair, thats all i can say ok, then he took off his sunglasses, mumbled thank you and they got into "brother" awesome awesome awesome i must say, that throughout the whole night, jerry was in top form, i dont know why he thinks he cant sing and play at the same time, all the songs he performed were absolutely perfect in both areas!

Inside Unplugged

ok, then layne talked about how the guys were excited we were all there b/c they had been hoping to this show for a long time now (about time, mtv!!!)and to me, at least, he seemed very sincere then, they kicked in "noexcuses" layne was kinda mellow at first, i mean you cant be very very energetic sitting on a chair the whole performance, right? so even though he was just sitting there, you could definitely tell when he was getting into the song when his voice started building up and carrying the song off onto a higher level, some songs were just amazing, the way he expressed his voice ok, then (haha, mike) they tried sludge factory um, they tried, and layne forgot the words amid the second verse he went something like: you insult me in my home...yayayayayaya(to the tune) aaaaaaaaaagh(to the tune).....(silence) (looks at jerry who's still playing) (music stops) layne yells DO OVER!!

he seemed peeved then he looked at the papers (and turned away from my part of the audience, for almost the rest of the show) and he said, ok, ok, and they started over it was good the next time (and we cheered like crazy anyways) then, (yes!yes!) they did down in a hole...sigh...it was SO BEAUTIFUL with the extra guitarist they could do all parts of the song and jerry and layne just took the song and ran with it.....the second time they did it the first time: layne sang ive eaten the sun.... instead of see my heart, i decorate it like a grave...and i think from then he realized he was a bit lost and then in the middle he just stopped...then the music stopped and then they did it over (magnificently this time) then they started jamming, jerry and sean, and came up with some wierd hick song, and jerry was singing some strange western accented country ditty and mike got up and did a nice little foot stomp for us ok, they brought out a guitar for layne, and kicked into angry chair lemme tell you, he did NOT forget the words to this song! it was very happy

then...yay! the crowd went wild as we heard the first strains of rooster and i defintely think this was one of the best performances of the night layne was totally into it, jerry was amazing, it alllll came together right after that, got me wrong and then heaven beside you which i think mtv will edit because jerry did NOT say thats tacked up or whatever the radio version plays...it was very very wonderful of course layne didnt have much to do, he just kinda stared at the papers and chimed in when neccesary

ok. the audience is going crazy after jerry stops, and we almost miss mike ripping (unplugged, of course) the beginning to would? mike said that someone he met heard them jamming would? b4 the show, so i expected it, but i was SO SO SO happy when i actually heard it yes, its amazing unplugged, i wonder if thats kinda what it would have sounded like if it were on sap instead of dirt, but it was still good stuff then afterwords, jerry did a little jam again with sean, just messing around basically and they ended up playing frogs this song, as you can expect, is so adaptable to unplugged, if you dont really like this song onthe new album, you would have been sadly disappointed because it sounded great unplugged layne even did the last part of the song where he sings about it being 7am, on a tuesday mroning in august, etc.

he changed around some of the words and i dont remember him saying expiration date, but he repeated date/fate a lot and dont fuck with me again...i guess you wont be seeing that on mtv ok. jerry started over now and that was, like frogs, completely adaptable to unplugged, so it sounded wonderful and then jerry said he would we like to hear "a little something we've been messing around with at soundcheck"

HELL YEAH! they then did this new song, which has jerry on lead vocals and layne harmonizing, like over now, and its called "killer is me" the drums are kind of got me wrong-ish but the guitars were defintely how do put it, darker? not hard, (obviously, not loud) not even heavy just really dark chords, and jerry sang, the whole thing reminded me a lot of sap b/c it was slowish, but the whole style is definitely the kind we seemore of in the new album, tones of frogs and over now and even heaven beside you to it as mike's friend put it: its one of those songs you really learn to like the second time you hear it then, they mumbled a thanks and left the stage but we knew they were coming back for retakes

so: they came back the exact same way they first entered, with nutshell and each person coming in one at a time: this time layne says something b4 he starts to sing (so you know which take they use in the showw) the retakes, the band was having much more fun with the audience after nutshell, there was a long pause (as many times b4 in the show) while they were fixing up mike's guitar some dude in the audience yelled :PLAY MAN IN THE BOX! they all looked up and layne grabbed the mike to say a resounding SHUTUP!

it was hilarious then the guy in the audience yelled PLEASE??? i think they chose to ignore that one ok, they kicked into sludge factory um, the third time layne got lost somewhere in the second chorus...yaaaayaayaaa...aaa...silenceok, then everyone was laughing b/c mike was like: DO IT RIGHT ALREADY! (being funny, of course) and they were all like, cmon, already! so the audience chimed in and (trying to be helpful, im sure) yelled out the lyrics so layne checked the papers for a good while, and then he turned to the guys and the then to the audience and said, ok, i got it this time, really! so they started over (4th time) and layne, with best intentions, im sure, started singing where he left off...by the time he realized what he was doing, he shouted a resounding FUUUUUUUCK!!

(i mean, not in a mean way, you know in a whatever, kind of way) they were threatening to leave, and then layne promised us one last song to our happiness, and they kicked into got me wrong but jerry was having problems with feedback so they started over this take, layne and jerry synchronize between "run from something strong" and "reach for something strong" whereas in the first take they didnt (just so you know, again) ok, and this time, they really did leave, but not without layne saying AWWWWW, i just want to HUG YOU ALL! in that wonderful sacrastin tone like in the nona tapes (oh, someone yelled NONA! but they didnt get it)

and someone else (my girl!) yelled SEXUAL CHOCOLATE, LAYNE, and they were tuning up so they all were like, huh? whatd she say? what the hell? and then sean jumped up front did a little jig, ran off stage mike hugged jerry, jerry hugged mike, and then jerry patted layne on the back and put his arm around him as they headed off stage it was very cool, jerry was being the reassuring bud, he's so cool then we got kicked out by evil mtv staffers

oh! i almost forgot, somewherein the middle, during a big pause, layne grabbed the mike to say: you guys, this is really the best show we've done in THREE YEARS the most fun? i dont remember exactlky what he said, but something to that effect that made the crowd very happy that they were doing a show AT ALL and that we were there to see them when they did it i dont know, when he said things like that, i felt that he was being sincere i mean, no one made him say it, you know? so even when he looked tired or frustrated i was really happy that he was there doing what he does best and from what i figure: they hardly ever perform down in a hole live (if ever) and even then its been a good three years, so of course he could get confused and forget those and sludge factory is a new song that they've never performed live, so of course he could get confused on that, too bc not only are they doing songs that they havent performed in YEARS (if at ALL) they are also doing brand spanking new ones that theyve never performed at all so you could say it was a warm up anyways, here's the set list again so you dont have to wander through my ravings to find them:

ok? ok. and since the band rushed off the stage and it was freezing outside and they kicked us out, i didnt know where to go to possible see them (boo) so i sucked, and sulked home...oh well, it was amazing, i am happy with it i hope you will be, too. and yes, all of the songs turned out wonderfully unplugged! maybe someone else who was there may wanna add their thoughts, too but mine are basically these plus: layne seemed secure, sincere ,maybe nervous but definitely into the music, and jerry was amazing, had it allll together.

ok. this is really long, sorry! thought you may want to know... (oh and jules, my friend did the sexual chocolate layne thing for you. darn he didnt understand. and jennifer, jerry couldnt get the kisses b/c he was the farthest one from me and layne's bright pink head was in the way not even FACING me, mind you, just the BACK of his head) (and adrian, i didnt need to tell layne to get his act together b.c he did get his act together....by the SIXTH take of sludge factory!!!!

ok, bye.

The story of a fan at the show.

it was so hilarious, we FELT his frustration, it was just really really funny they did it again. really! one more time (number 5) and it went pretty smoothly(\(\( the whole audience breathed a sigh of relief at the end) oh, and whenever they did sludge factory, layne did NOT do the spoken word part at the end....your weapon is guilt, etc of, bring out the guitar, do angry chair again this time it was (again) awesome, layne really gets into it after the sludge factory mishaps again, we were so happy for them, we almost missed the beginnings of would?

this version, layne scratches his head! just so you know (need i say: wonderful, awesome, fanTAStic, etc.?) they do the frogs thing they do killer is me jerry kicks into the blues man schtick from in living colour hilarious whatta funny group of lads, those boys and then they reintroduced the song and did killer is me again (im telling you, the song just grows on you!) then there was a big pause and layne said: ok, were gonna do a song none of you have ever heard ofbefore! and they do SLUDGE FACTORY (poor guy, it must traumatizing by now)

take number 6 was perfect, it went absolutely smoothly, really! then, there was a big pause, lots of requests were made (amond them, sea of sorrow, the man in the box freak, grind??? and SICKMAN??? how is THAT supposed to work unplugged????) but they ignored them all
